US stock futures shoot higher after strong jobs report

US stock futures shot out of the gate late Sunday and rose after Friday’s encouraging jobs report.

Sunday night up more than 200 points, or 0.6%, while S&P 500 futures ES00,
+ 0.44%
and Nasdaq-100 futures NQ00,
+ 0.13%
also showed solid gains.

The markets were closed on Friday due to the Good Friday holiday. The main benchmarks ended the holiday-shortened week with a profit, with the S&P 500 SPX,
+ 1.18%
finish above the 4,000 milestone for the first time. The S&P rose 1.2% this week, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA,
+ 0.52%
achieved 0.2% and the Nasdaq Composite COMP,
+ 1.76%
moved up 2.6%.

Friday, the federal jobs report broke expectations, with the US adding 916,000 in March as the unemployment rate fell from 6.2% to 6%. Job growth was widespread in March, led by gains in leisure and hospitality, public and private education and construction, the Labor Department report found.
