US stock futures declined slightly as trading started in 2021

US stock market futures fell slightly late Sunday during the first trading session of the new year.

Dow Jones Industrial Average Futures YM00,
+ 0.09%,
S&P 500 futures ES00,

everything slipped, two days before the Georgia elections that will determine control of the Senate and, likely, the fate of Biden’s incoming government.

US stocks ended higher on Thursday, the last trading day of 2020, when the Dow and S&P 500 set new records as investors ushered in a wild year in which stocks plunged to a bear market before returning to record highs.

The Dow DJIA,
+ 0.65%
ended the year with 8.3%, the S&P 500 SPX,
+ 0.64%
finished 16.3%, and the Nasdaq COMP,
+ 0.14%
closed the year with no less than 43.6%.
