There are curious, surprising and incredible stories surrounding certain music stars, even crazy ones. But some of them are not true, although they are still shared.
Even if they are repeated over and over, the lies do not become the truth. But if they are interesting, incredible, or sickly enough, they can continue to share as if they were and penetrate the common imagination.
And the music world, rich in stories and topics related to excess and fame, is a perfect breeding ground for urban legends to spread and survive.
KISSING BAND, RED INK AND A BEEF SOLE.
In the seventies of the last century, the band “Kiss” triumphed not only for its music, but also for its aesthetics. They went to the stages of half the world, dressed in leather with openings and striking metal applications, platforms and with their faces painted in black and white, each with a motif.
Another characteristic of the band was the language of Gene Simmons, the bass player. A long tongue with a sharp tip that he showed in concerts, photos and videos. Well, the legend has been circulating for years that Simmons’ tongue was that of a cow.
In those years, many accepted the surgical graft version. The bass player himself has debunked this bizarre theory several times.
However, this isn’t the only myth haunting the group Kiss. In 1977, according to the BBC, the Marvel house published a comic in which the band was the lead actor, a Marvel Comics Super Special Kiss.
Kiss flew to New York and mixed his blood with the red ink used to print the copies. And this part is true. Everything happened in the presence of a notary.
What’s wrong is that the ink had accidentally ended up on the publication of Sports Illustrated magazine.
MAMA CASS AND A SANDWICH.
Cass Elliot, also known as Mama Cass, a member of the group The Mamas and The Papas, died in 1974 at the age of 32. At the time of his death, it was rumored that his death was due to asphyxiation. Specifically, it was said that the singer died of suffocation with a piece of ham sandwich.
This information got into the media because of a misunderstanding before the autopsy was performed. After the test, the cause of death was stated to be a heart attack.
What is certain is that he died in the same place where the drummer of the British band The Who, Keith Moon, was in 1978 at the home of fellow musician and composer Harry Nilsson, in the Mayfair area of London.
THE DOUBLE OF AVRIL LAVIGNE.
In 2012, a rumor began to circulate among fans of Avril Lavigne, the Canadian singer who rose to fame in the early 2000s with “Complicated” or “Sk8er boi”. According to this theory, the real Lavigne had committed suicide in 2003 and had been replaced by an actress who looked a lot like her.
While it may seem silly, the rumor spread like wildfire and she herself came out several times to deny it.
A few years later, the blog where the alleged montage came out acknowledged that it had been some sort of experiment to show how easy it is to create and how conspiracy theories permeate the internet, according to a British media.
DEPECHE MODE AND THE CHESTS.
The story of 50% of the duo Depeche Mode and their habit of sleeping in a chest navigates between truth and urban legend.
Apparently David Gahan had an interest in vampires, and at one point in his career it was said that his fascination with these creatures was so great that he decided to sleep in a coffin.
However, this could be a misunderstanding or a misrepresentation of reality as his bed was not a coffin, but what is true is that it was shaped like a coffin.
MARILYN MANSON RIBS.
There’s no denying that provocation and Marilyn Manson go hand in hand. From his name, which combines that of actress Marilyn Monroe with the last name of Charles Manson, leader of the sect guilty of the 1969 murder of Sharon Tate and six other people, to his appearance, Manson’s figure can be disturbing.
Over the years, the most diverse legends and myths have arisen around the controversial figure Manson, such as that he was the protagonist of “The Wonder Years”; or that heroin has been injected into the eye; or that he sacrificed animals.
One of the most common is that the singer decided to undergo surgery to remove two ribs and give himself a blowjob. For years he refused to comment on this fact, but not long ago the artist showed with sarcasm that it was not true at all.
