UPS driver fired after racist rant on family porch: report

A UPS driver who was caught on video ranting racially while delivering a package to a Latino family in Milwaukee has reportedly been fired.

Hugo Aviles, a police officer, was asleep when he received a report from his security camera showing the UPS driver spitting out the racist comments on his porch on Dec.17, The Washington Post reported.

“Now you don’t understand anything, because you are a stupid m – who cannot read and write and do not speak the English language,” the driver reportedly says in the recording.

Shirley Aviles, 45, the police officer’s mother, said she had no doubt the UPS driver was talking about her 23-year-old son.

“He has never met my son,” the mother told The Washington Post. He bases it exclusively on the Latino surname. He meant it. He sent it back. It was malicious. “

On Tuesday, UPS announced that it had fired the driver. The company has not disclosed the driver’s identity.

His resignation came after activists in Milwaukee held a press conference demanding that the company take action.

“There is no place for racism, bigotry, or hatred in any community,” a UPS spokesperson told NBC News. “This is very serious and we took immediate action and terminated the driver’s employment.”
