Unreleased Simpsons game discovered on Old Sega Dreamcast

A few decades ago, there were a lot of them Simpsons games on the market. Between The Simpsons: Road Rage, Hit & Run, and the popular arcade game, the feature was a common sight in the gaming room. Not so much nowadays. That said, the beloved cartoon is again relevant in the video game world this week, but in a very unusual way.

Discovered on an old Sega Dreamcast dev kit, a user named Sreak hasn’t released one yet Simpsons game for the platform that was clearly in the works at one point. The game has the title The Simpsons: Bug Squad! and strangely, characters place control of an insect that can run around the titular family’s home. Homer himself can also be seen in the game world, but aside from that, nothing outside of the home’s iconic layout indicates that it is attached to the property in any significant way.

Whatever The Simpsons: Bug Squad! clearly this is just a technical demo put together by developer Red Lemon. In fact, chances are that this game was not a formal game Simpsons and the studio just chose to quickly recreate the layout of the house as a model for the bug character to then run around. The demo itself is also said to have been made in October 2000, which is somehow over 20 now. years ago. Where does time go?

More information about The Simpsons: Bug Squad! hasn’t come to light since the game was discovered, but it certainly makes you think about how many games like this were in the works for Dreamcast over the day. While none of these time-wasted games would likely have saved the system from becoming irrelevant, it’s certainly interesting to consider.

So what do you think or this whole situation? Let the reveal of this game wish you that Simpsons games would return in a more formal capacity these days? Let me know in the comments or drop me a line on Twitter @ Jeroen1988 to talk more about this story.
