Super Nintendo World, the Mario and Friends themed area at Universal Studios Japan, was set to open on February 4th next month. However, due to the state of emergency in Osaka, that will not happen.
This is not the first time that the park has been delayed. Originally scheduled for an opening in the summer of 2020, but in the wake of last year’s state of emergency pushed back.
The latest announcement was made on USJs earlier today official site:
The grand opening of Super Nintendo World has been postponed.
We will be announcing the new grand opening date shortly after the Osaka prefecture state of emergency is lifted.
A preview was held for the park last November, showing visitors what to expect.
As covid-19 cases continue to increase in Japan, it is a state of emergency was stated yesterday for Osaka and the surrounding prefectures. This comes after a similar announcement used to be made last week for the greater Tokyo area and as one new variant of the new coronavirus was recently discovered on Haneda airport.
