United States without defining which COVID test travelers will ask | News from El Salvador

Since January 12, the government has required those who wish to enter that country to take the exam.

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, signed a series of executive orders on Thursday to step up the prevention of COVID-19.

One of them is the requirement to provide a negative COVID-19 test upon entry into that country. This is in line with the requirement to meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines that set this requirement on Jan. 12.

According to the White House, health and transportation authorities will determine what type of COVID-19 test travelers should conduct and what type of negative test they should present by Jan. 26.

Options in El Salvador
One test available in El Salvador is the PCR-RT, a molecular test performed only by the Ministry of Health and three authorized laboratories: Max Bloch, Analiza and Hospital de Diagnicación (Escalón). It costs between $ 150 and $ 165.

Some countries also accept an antigen test, which is done by swabbing (the same as RT-PCR), delivered in 40 minutes and costing between $ 90 and $ 98.

The country is also doing the C-Reactive Protein test, which measures the level of inflammation in the body. This is in the blood and is not used to detect the Sars-Cov-2 virus.
