The President of the United States, Donald Trump, left a letter to his successor, Joe
Biden, before leaving the White House, a spokesman for the executive said Wednesday minutes after the president’s departure.

Trump, who refused to accept his defeat for more than two months, never congratulated Biden on his victory in the November election. The letter that the outgoing president leaves in the Oval Office to the incoming one is an American tradition.

“We are only temporary residents of this position,” he wrote. Barack Obama one
Trump four years ago. “This makes us guardians of democratic institutions and traditions, such as the rule of law, the separation of powers, the protection of civil rights for which our ancestors fought,” he added.
