UK may still play a non-conference game in place of South Carolina

The opener of the Southeastern Conference of Kentucky was postponed because South Carolina suspended its basketball activities due to COVID. Originally scheduled for release next Tuesday, December 29, the game is being postponed with no make-up date set. Kentucky is now tipping off SEC play in Starkville on Saturday, January 2.

However, John Calipari may choose to add another non-conference opponent to the schedule on the night of Dec. 29 to fill the South Carolina opening. The UK has one open non-conference game to play due to the cancellation of the Detroit Mercy game, and KSR’s own Matt Jones overhears that a well-known program can perform and the Cats can play between the Louisville and Mississippi State games.

How does UK-Bellarmine sound? Bellarmine is one of the opponents who will qualify for an alternative match next Tuesday evening.

Stay tuned.
