UFC on ABC 1 Forefacts: Max Holloway’s Legendary Chin

The UFC will kick off its 2021 campaign on Saturday with UFC on ABC 1, returning the promotion to network television.

The card headliner on ABC, which follows the prelims on ESPN +, is a high stakes featherweight clash between former champion Max Holloway (21-6 MMA, 17-6 UFC), who appears to be shooting a two-fight losing slip , and the red-hot Calvin Kattar (22-4 MMA, 6-2 UFC).

Holloway’s six third-round wins in the UFC league are equal to Randy Couture and Yoel Romero for most of the company’s history.

Matt Brown

Matt Brown (22-17 MMA, 15-11 UFC) takes part in his 27th UFC welterweight bout, the most appearances in the division’s history.

Santiago Ponzinibbio (27-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) returns to the competition for the first time since November 17, 2018. The 791-day layoff is the longest of his nearly 13-year career.

Ponzinibbio’s UFC-winning streak of seven welterweight fights is the third longest active streak in the division behind Kamaru Usman (12) and Leon Edwards (eight).

Ponzinibbio has had 21 of his 27 career wins through hiatus. He finished 16 of them in round 1.

Ponzinibbio’s four first-round knockout victories in the UFC welterweight league rank third in the division’s history, behind Anthony Johnson (five) and Vicente Luque (five).

Joaquin Buckley vs. Alessio Di Chirico

Joaquin Buckley (12-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) has achieved all nine wins from his career break by knockout.

Buckley is one of four fighters in UFC history to earn a knockout as a result of a reversing kick to the head, which he did at UFC on ESPN + 37 Renan Barao, Uriah Hall and Magomed Mustafaev also achieved the feat .

Alessio Di Chirico’s (12-5 MMA, 3-5 UFC) losing slip is the longest of his career. He has not had a victory since July 2018.

Phil Hawes v Nassourdine Imavov

Phil Hawes (9-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has had all nine wins in his career by hiatus.

Hawes’ 18-second knockout at UFC 254 was the second-fastest debut for a middleweight in UFC history, following Mark Weir’s 10-second win at UFC 38.

Omari Akhmedov v Tom Breese

Omari Akhmedov (20-5-1 MMA, 8-4-1 UFC) has been 3-1-1 since returning to the UFC Middleweight division in December 2017. He is 4-1-1 in the weight class overall under the UFC -flag .

Tom Breese (12-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) has been 2-1 since moving to the UFC Middleweight division in May 2018.

Breese has had 11 of his 12 career wins through hiatus. All four of his UFC finishes have been knocked out.

Sarah Moras to Vanessa Melo

Vanessa Melo’s (10-8 MMA, 0-3 UFC) losing slip in three fights is the longest of her career. She has not had a victory since January 2019.

Melo has lost seven of her eight careers by decision. That includes all three of her UFC defeats.
