The Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEM) and the state authorities agreed to temporarily withdraw 200 students from various hospitals of the entity that the institution said they worked in other areas and not the Covid-19 zone.
According to information from the top Mexican school of studies, that was reported in a data update so far this year cases of infected GPs have already been registered with the new coronavirus; However, the number of college students who found themselves in this situation was not specified and it was only noted that his condition was not serious.
The decision was made after what happened a general practitioner from UNAM affiliated with the General Hospital “Dr. José María Rodríguez ”from Ecatepec which died as a result of complications from the disease produced by the SARS-Cov-2 virus and have reportedly reported it to hospital authorities.
In this sense, the UNAM also decided to withdraw the GPs until there are better conditions for protection and safety.
For its part, the Mexican government reported, via a press release, that the director of the hospital and the head of the Research and Education Department were astonished for violating prisoners’ rights and for not following instructions issued regarding Undergraduate Internal Physicians during the pandemic of COVID-19.
Regarding the UAEM GPs infected with the virus, none were serious, it was noted.
However, follow-up was given during the illness so that their return to hospital wards occurred after they recovered 100% and not before.
The UAEM has 1,750 GPs in various hospitals throughout the Mexican territory.
It should be remembered that last year, in April, undergraduate students from several public universities in the republic, including the UAEM, were temporarily removed from hospital sites as a protection and biosecurity measure as they did not expose themselves to any Covid risk .
At the time, it was alleged that they did not have the necessary equipment or training for patient management.
However, the university authorities and the federal government have made arrangements about the return of the students. Although some students did it before, but voluntarily.
During that period, the UAEM reported on social networks the measures taken in this area.
In April 2020, it delivered personal protection kits to healthcare-focused students such as: medicine, dentistry, and nursing for students providing social services in Mexican hospitals.
