Two police officers are killed after being injured in a chase on Isla Verde

A state police officer and another municipal police officer died this afternoon after being injured in a chase on Baldority de Castro Avenue en route to Carolina at the Embassy Suites hotel on Isla Verde, police confirmed.

At least one other officer is currently injured.

Authorities said the police were chasing a white Hyundai Accent car, which allegedly shot them. The incident was reported around 3:50 PM.

The uniformed person asked the public that if they have any information, they should contact 787-343-2020 immediately. The conversation will be treated confidentially.

Federal agents are also at the crime scene.

“We responded supportively, if we found out that there was a federal link in what was happening, we would come in (to take jurisdiction),” said Limarys Cruz Rubio, spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Traffic in the area remains congested, mainly the lane towards Carolina, so drivers are encouraged to take alternative roads.
