Two people arrested on gun charges outside the White House; No danger to the president – NBC4 Washington

According to the Metropolitan Police Department and the Secret Service, two people, one of whom said they were there to meet the president, approached US Secret Service officers outside the White House and were arrested after admitting to having weapons.

The Secret Service said that “during the meeting and subsequent arrests, the individuals posed no immediate danger to a protection of the Secret Service.”

At approximately 5:24 PM, police said a man and a woman approached Secret Service agents “of their own accord” outside a secure vehicle checkpoint of the White House complex off the westernmost crosswalk of 15th Street on NW Pennsylvania Avenue.

One person said that “they were there to meet with the President of the United States and deliver a letter,” police said.

“One of the individuals announced possession of a weapon and was immediately arrested and the second revealed the location of an additional weapon in a nearby vehicle,” said a secret service spokesman.

After finding that vehicle, the Secret Service said the agents “took possession of the weapon.”

The man, who has not been identified, was arrested for possession of a BB gun.

Sylvia Hall, 66, was arrested for carrying an unlicensed gun, possession of an unregistered firearm, and possession of unregistered ammunition.
