Today Nintendo released a new system update for the Wii U in Japan. The last firmware, 5.5.3, was released in early September 2018.

Nintendo of America detailed the previous update as a fix for the following:

Improvements to the stability and usability of the system

Further improvements to the overall system stability and other minor tweaks have been made to improve the user experience.

The latest firmware update, 5.5.5, is currently only detailed in Japanese from Nintendo support page but refers to the same as the previous one mentioned above.
