Michael Chiesa held up perfectly in the welterweight division on Saturday when he beat Neil Magny in the UFC at the ESPN 20 main event.
Chiesa (18-4 MMA, 11-4 UFC) extended his series in the division to 4-0 when he scored a lopsided, unanimous win over Magny (24-8 MMA, 17-7 UFC) in the headlining game, which took place at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi and broadcast on ESPN2.

Red corner is 11-2 tonight. Neil Magny tries to go against the trend. Main event on tap. -> ESPN

Chiesa probably needs the takedown to win, but that was arguably the most polished I’ve seen.

Chiesa’s early takedown attempt to start round 2, but Magny keeps his balance and he has an underhook. # UFCFightIsland8

Magny worked hard to get up and went looking for a takedown herself, but Chiesa ended up on top. # UFCFightIsland8

This fight is good for Chiesa. The man who wins the clinch in this fight is the winner. That man is @ MikeMav22

Cheisa is a struggling madman. I love it so much.

Magny forces a takedown in Round 2 and pays for it by giving Chiesa the highest position. Another round for Chiesa. 2-0.

Magny was available on +400 about 30 seconds ago. +169 and plummeting.

I can’t believe why these two guys don’t use judo techniques. They are both boys. They can do so much judo @ufc

This is another reason why aggressive elbows would serve him well: Chiesa was able to ground Magny consistently in the first two rounds, but his inability to subdue him arguably that time wasted at the top as Magny is still the fresher man is – like Chiesa gets on top while I type

Magny’s decision-making in this battle costs him. Still should have won round 3, but he refuses to strike with less experienced striker Chiesa. 🤷🏻♂️

Michael Chiesa has never lost a match in which he has scored 3 or more takedowns, a threshold he has now crossed.

Happy to get some sample size on Chiesa in championship rounds, but he wants to close the show from the back …

Too often fighters overwhelm themselves with the “mixed” in mixed martial arts and get lost trying to do everything. Michael Chiesa knows exactly who he is and what he does. His path is clear. It can be limiting, but it can also give purpose to each action.

Chiesa is tired, but on the ground he is in a flow

This main event really shows just how skilled the higher echelon fighters are compared to some of the more green fighters on the roster we saw in some of the earlier periods.

Michael Chiesa sets up a clinic against the heaviest, Neil Magny. A win here would be 4 in a row for Chiesa. Another round …
