Trump’s Mar-a-Lago has been partially closed due to COVID outbreak

WASHINGTON (AP) – Former President Donald Trump’s club in Palm Beach, Florida, has been partially closed due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

That’s according to several people familiar with the situation, including a club member who was called to notify them of the closure on Friday. A receptionist from the Mar-a-Lago club confirmed the news, saying it was closed until further notice, but declined to comment further.

One person familiar with the club activities said that, out of an abundance of caution, they had “partially closed” a “part of the club” for a short period and quarantined some of the employees.

The people spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the situation by name. The number of cases, which parts of the club were closed or how it affected the former first family, was not immediately clear.

Representatives for Trump and the Florida Department of Health did not immediately respond to a phone call and email asking for comment on Friday.

Trump moved to Mar-a-Lago after leaving Washington in January, and has spent the following weeks lying down, golfing, dining with friends, meeting Republican party leaders, and plotting his political future as he contemplates running again in 2024.

Trump was hospitalized with COVID last fall and has since been vaccinated against the virus.

Mar-a-Lago was the site of its first known exposure over a year ago. A senior Brazilian official tested positive last year after spending time at the Mar-a-Lago club, posing next to Trump for a photo and attending a family birthday party.

The Trump White House was hit by several consecutive outbreaks after it violated virus precautions by resisting wearing a mask and continuing to hold major events.
