One of Donald Trump’s lawyers reportedly said he would “go to Disney World” after the Senate acquitted the former president after a trial on charges of the siege of the Capitol.

Trump was acquitted on Saturday after a controversial indictment trial over the deadly siege of the Capitol on January 6, the second time he was impeached and his second acquittal.

57 senators voted to convict the former president on charges of inciting insurgency related to the siege, while 43 voted for acquittal. The U.S. Senate needed a two-thirds majority to condemn the former president, but was left there, paving the way for Trump to run for re-election in the future.

Trump’s legal team was understandably pleased with the result – even though more senators voted to condemn the ex-president than to acquit him – with members hugging, laughing and punching fists after the acquittal was confirmed.

“He had a good day in court today. He was vindicated. He was found not guilty. The political witch hunt they had that the Democrats had thrown at him was defeated, so he should be quite pleased.” , said Van der Veen. according to CNN.

According to USA Today reporter Christal Hayes, when he boarded the Capitol’s internal subway after the trial, Van der Veen then heard fellow members of Trump’s legal team say, “We’re going to Disney World!”

Van der Veen’s comment about going to Disney World was likely a reference to a statement often made by Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks, who often visit the Florida theme park in the days after winning the biggest football prize.

Whether Trump’s legal team actually plans to visit Disney World remains to be seen. When they do, they will find a park that has changed a lot in the days before the pandemic, with mandatory masks, many closed attractions, and social aloofness.

“My house has been attacked. I’d rather not go into that. To answer your question, my whole family, my company, my law firm is currently under siege,” said Van der Veen, as reported by CNN.

According to CBS Philly, Detective Scott Pezick of the local police said Van der Veen’s home is now under surveillance by private security guards.

He added that “we have shown a police presence to prevent anything from happening.”
