Trump says he has “nothing to do” with “possible prosecution” of Hunter Biden

President Trump said on Thursday that he has “NOTHING to do” with the “possible prosecution” of President-elect Joe Biden’s son, calling the ramifications surrounding Hunter Biden’s confirmation that he is under federal investigation “very sad to see. “.

“I have NOTHING to do with the potential prosecution of Hunter Biden or the Biden family,” Trump tweeted on Thursday. “It’s just more fake news.”

He added, “Actually, I think it’s very sad to see!”

The president’s tweets come after reports surfaced this week calling for the appointment of special counsel to ensure that the federal investigation into Hunter Biden under the Biden administration continues.

Republicans on Capitol Hill have called for special counsel to be appointed to investigate the younger Biden’s foreign business dealings.

HUNTER BIDEN SENT IN 2017 ‘BEST WISHES’ FROM ‘WHOLE BIDEN FAMILY’ TO CHAIRMAN OF CHINESE ENERGY FIRM, REQUESTS $ 10 MILLION THREAD

Hunter Biden confirmed last week that he is under a federal investigation for his “tax affairs.”

A well-placed government source told Fox News that Hunter Biden is a subject / target of the grand jury investigation. According to the source, a “target” means that there is “a high probability that someone has committed a crime,” while a “subject” is someone you are “not sure” has committed a crime.

The source said President-elect Biden is not currently the subject of a grand jury investigation.

The source also tells Fox News that this investigation was based in part on Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) related to suspicious foreign transactions.

Another source familiar with the investigation tells Fox News that the SARs involved funds from “China and other foreign countries.”

A Treasury Department official, who did not comment on the investigation, spoke broadly about SARs, telling Fox News that SARs are filed by financial institutions “if there is anything unusual about a particular transaction.”

The official told Fox News that merely filing a SAR does not imply a criminal act or violation of regulations, but instead indicates that a transaction is “extraordinary” to the customer. However, the officer noted that a SAR could be part of a money laundering or tax investigation.

The investigation began in 2018, according to a source familiar with the case.

Two sources familiar with the investigation tell Fox News the investigation also involves the laptop allegedly belonging to Hunter Biden.

In October, Fox News first reported that the FBI had sued a laptop and hard drive allegedly belonging to Hunter Biden in connection with a money laundering investigation in late 2019.

President-elect Biden said on Wednesday that he is “sure” his son has done nothing wrong.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Bill Barr announced earlier this month that he had separately appointed US Attorney of Connecticut John Durham as special counsel to continue his investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia probe.
