Former President Donald Trump and former first lady Melania Trump received vaccinations against the coronavirus in the White House in January, a person working for Trump told CNBC on Monday.
Trump, who left office on January 20, did not reveal at the time that he and the first lady had been vaccinated.
It is unclear which vaccine the president and first lady received. At the time, two vaccines had been approved for emergency use by the United States Food and Drug Administration.
“President Trump and the First Lady were vaccinated in the White House in January,” the person said, declining to share additional details or context.
The New York Times first reported that the former president and first lady had been vaccinated during their tenure.
Trump, in a speech Sunday at the annual conservative gala CPAC, encouraged “everyone” to get vaccinated.
“We’ve taken care of a lot of people,” Trump said in the rare post-presidential appearance.
“We’ve taken care of it [President] Joe Biden, because he got his shot, he got his vaccine, “Trump said.” So everyone, go get your shot. ‘
Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris both received their two doses of Covid vaccine publicly, to encourage Americans to get vaccinated and to convince those skeptical about the injections.
