Trump is encouraging ‘major protest’ amid allegations that he won elections

President Trump took to Twitter on Saturday to promise the country new election protests when Congress meets next month to confirm his loss in the 2020 election.

“Statistically impossible to have lost the 2020 elections. Big protest in DC on January 6. Be there, it will be wild! ” Trump said.

In a follow-up tweet, he urged GOP congressional leaders to stick with the line and not recognize Joe Biden as the winner – something they’ve been less and less willing to do since Biden’s electoral college victory last week.

“[Joe Biden] did not win the election. He lost all 6 Swing States, by a lot. They then threw hundreds of thousands of votes in every vote and were caught. Now Republican politicians must fight so that their great victory is not stolen. Don’t be weak fools! Trump said.

Both tweets were quickly flagged by Twitter with “fact checks” intended to undermine the president’s claims.

After “MAGA March” protests in Washington DC last week, clashes between Antifa rioters and members of the far-right Proud Boys erupted and led to dozens of arrests and at least four stabbings.

The joint session of Congress meeting on Jan. 6 to certify the electoral college vote is usually a formality, and President-elect Biden’s eventual path to the White House has now been determined. While members of Congress have the right to raise objections – with some such as Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks who say they will – experts doubt it will have any impact on the outcome.
