Trisha Yearwood explains why her marriage to Garth Brooks is difficult

After celebrating her 15th anniversary with Garth Brooks in December, Trisha tells Yearwood how ‘difficult’ their union can be.

Yearwood, 56, and Brooks, 59, got married in December, months after Brooks proposed onstage at a live performance in Bakersfield, California.

The country star opened up in an interview with US Weekly, revealing that their relationship has gotten ‘better with time’, although it is still ‘difficult’.

‘We are both very independent people who operate our own ships. And sometimes when two people are piloting two big ships it can be difficult, ” said Yearwood, promoting her new animal collection line.

She added that being quarantined with her husband all the time during the COVID-19 pandemic wasn’t much of a problem, other than that they had nowhere to go.

‘Before this past year, we were together all the time. I mean, we really are a couple who got married to be together, so we don’t spend that much time without each other anyway. So it wasn’t a big change, but it was enough that there really was nowhere to go, ‘she added.

The singer added that they both had to navigate how to both remain ‘alphas’ and ‘live their own lives’ while still being a couple.

“It’s a balance where sometimes one person controls the ship and sometimes the other person, and sometimes you stand behind each other,” she added.

Brooks also said during an interview about Ellen in March that they spent their time in quarantine addressing the issues that really bothered them for the past 15 years.

After a year in quarantine, Yearwood noted that their relationship is “ better now than ever, ” adding that she’s done what she doesn’t normally do in relationships.

So in this situation that’s not an option because this is the love of my life, you know? So you sit down and you talk it through and that makes you better when you get to the other side, ‘she added.

Music aside, Yearwood has been working on her pet food line that was inspired by her love of rescuing dogs.

“The treats have all of the human-grade ingredients in them, stuff that’s not weird you’d know what they were,” she said.

“But for things like the beds and the backpacks and the beds, I needed them to be beautiful, but I wanted to be able to put them in the washing machine because my dogs are indoor-outdoor dogs,” she added.

“They come to the farm, they get dirty, they roll stuff in it,” Yearwood continued.
