San Francisco 49ers’ offensive tackle Trent Williams is just a week away from the potential to become a free agent. Ideally, however, he hopes this does not happen. He would like to stay with the Niners, who traded for him during draft. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers are keen to keep him on the roster. Fans would love to see Williams stay too. The veteran offensive lineman has quickly become a fan and media favorite.
Williams joined teammate Richard Sherman, also scheduled to become a free agent The Cris Collinsworth Podcast this week. Sherman predicts Williams will stay put in 2021.
“I let him stay in San Francisco for The Faithful,” Sherman said. “I think he will stay in San Francisco. I think he’ll make you guys happy for another five (or) six years, and get his gold jacket and decide if he wants it in Washington or San Francisco. ‘
Of course, players are not included in the Pro Football Hall of Fame associated with one specific team. They are inducted as players and are associated with every team they played with during their professional career.
As for Sherman’s prediction, it didn’t sound like Williams has a problem with it.
“That’s not a bad approach, guys,” responded the eight-time Pro Bowl tackle. That’s not a bad opinion. You are all barking in the right tree. ‘
What about Sherman, who will almost certainly not return to the 49ers? Which landing spot does Williams predict for his defensive teammate?
“I’m not going to lie, man. Rich is one of my favorite teammates I’ve ever had,” Williams said. “… I know that any locker room that gets him will be blessed. I’d love to stay in the locker room with him because I know what he brings to a team.
“I think it’s going to be a win-now team, which I feel like we were on a win-now team. Rich, he’s so smart. He can do anywhere. He fits in any locker room. He can blend in. in any crowd. So I don’t really see any restrictions on him. “
Williams was hesitant to name possible landing spots, but ended up throwing away a number of options.
“I still hope he will be back in whatever dressing room I am in,” said Williams. “… I can see [the Kansas City Chiefs], get in there and help that defensive backfield. … I would like to see him somewhere good weather, get a good salary, the taxes don’t weigh him down.
[The Las Vegas Raiders] sounds like a good team. I think the Indianapolis Colts. The AFC, there are many good places there. As long as he doesn’t end up back in Seattle. … I definitely don’t want to see him twice a year when I was in San Francisco. ”

Options for the 49ers if LT Trent Williams leaves free agency
By Brian Renick

The worst-case scenario for the 49ers this off-season would be that All-Pro, left-winger Trent Williams, leaves on duty. Last off-season, the team sent a third-round pick to the Washington Football Team to acquire Williams, then restructured his deal to give him a small pay rise and include language in the contract that stated that they wouldn’t use the franchise tag on him in 2021. Looking at the free agents awaiting the tackle position, it’s easy to see that Trent Williams is by far the best player available. Williams has indicated that he would like to return to the 49ers, which is good news, but he also wants to test the market to determine his value, which could be bad news. There are plenty of teams who are right with cap space, even with a cap-tight season, and a need

Rosenthal expects the 49ers to be the highest paid player in free agency against Trent Williams

The San Francisco 49ers let wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders leave through a free agency after making a mid-season trade with the Denver Broncos to take him over. He was seen as a piece that could take the team to a championship, and last year that came very close. Can an attacking tackle Trent Williams also be a one-off? Last year, San Francisco swapped for Williams to replace retiring Joe Staley, giving up concept capital. Williams is the most prominent name in the 49ers’ long list of imminent free agents. NFL Network’s Gregg Rosenthal recently ranked his top 101 free agents in 2021. Williams came in

The San Francisco 49ers still have exclusive negotiating rights with Trent Williams representatives. That will change on March 15, when negotiations with other teams can begin. With no new reports of any negotiation progress with San Francisco, it sounds like Williams remains on track for the open market. The 49ers reportedly had “extensive” contract talks with Williams representatives ahead of the regular season finale. They hoped to avoid a situation where the eight-time Pro Bowler even approaches a free agency. Obviously that didn’t happen, and here we are. Williams and San Francisco have a mutual desire to stay together. Still there

Breer: Increasing demand for Trent Williams could lead 49ers to tackle number 12

Assuming they moved all-in to return to the Super Bowl last season, the San Francisco 49ers traded for offensive tackle Trent Williams to replace outgoing Joe Staley. It was a good move for a team that felt it could not afford a key drop-off on a squad that expected to avenge the Super Bowl LIV defeat. Upon arrival, Williams immediately noticed the difference between the 49ers’ environment and the environment he experienced in Washington. Reuniting with head coach Kyle Shanahan rejuvenated the attacking lineman, who hoped he would end up in a long-term home. “I didn’t see this situation as if I wanted to come here for a year,” says Williams
