Traeger Pellet grills and smokers are the centerpiece of many suburban barbecues, and those lucky enough to take care of these machines are considered gods under the chest. Now, after years of only being able to monitor and adjust your grill through your phone, Traeger is now offering an Apple Watch app for grillers on the go.

Traeger’s grills feature WiFi, which means you can connect to it remotely. The phone app currently offers recipes and notifications that will tell you when the meat reaches a certain temperature. You can also change the heat and even activate the smoker remotely.

The Apple Watch app is similar, but simpler. The app allows you to change the temperature, check the probe temperature and turn on reheat mode when your meal is ready. The video below shows an idyllic example where the griller flops some beef on the grill and then goes snowshoeing, checking the grill from the comfort of his wrist.

Apple Watch apps aren’t new, but this one is particularly snappy because, while not technologically impressive, it puts control of your smoked pork shoulder on your wrist. If that’s not the future, I don’t know what it is.
