DUNEDIN, Fla. – Toronto Blue Jays poet Julian Merryweather has been placed on the list with 10 days injured with a tense left slant.
The righthanded man felt uncomfortable on the left side of his stomach during his final warm-up pitch in the eighth inning of Tuesday-evening’s 7-3 victory over the New York Yankees.
Merryweather came in with two runners on and two outs and threw only two pitches to Aaron Hicks before Gary Sanchez was tagged out in a rundown between first and second base on a pitch in the sand. He did not return until the ninth.
Merryweather has two saves and gave up only one hit and one walk with seven strikeouts in 4⅓ innings in four appearances. His fastball has reached 160 km / h this season.
Ross Stripling was also scratched from his scheduled start against the Yankees on Wednesday due to the tightness of the forearm. He couldn’t break free before the game.
TJ Zeuch replaced Stripling.
Game Notes: RHP David Phelps, hit in the lower back Tuesday night by Clint Frazier’s 100.7mph liner, is day to day with a bruised back. … RHP Anthony Castro had bought his contract from the alternate site and will work outside of the bullpen.
