Javier Burrai was the most-elected goalkeeper in the election of the best footballers of 2020, in a poll conducted by DAILY TRADE, between coaches and members of the technical bodies of the first category clubs.
As every year, this newspaper consulted with professionals to choose the footballers LigaPro highlights during an irregular season, in which there was a long hiatus due to covid-19.
There were six categories and 28 the professionals consulted, belonging to the 16 clubs in Serie A, 10 in Serie B and the two that rose from the Second Category.
Burrai, champion with Barcelona, was the figure in the definition of the title before League of Quito, in the penalty shootout, in the Rodrigo Paz stadium. The yellow players were favorites in the poll and they won in three of the six categories consulted.
These were the results of the vote:
Dear goalkeeper: Javier Burrai, from Barcelona, took 21 points to take first place, followed by Adrián Gabbarini from Liga de Quito with six votes and Rolando Silva from Orense with one.
Best Defense: Williams Riveros, also of the bullfighting team, was voted the most with 12 points. Liga de Quito’s Moisés Corozo came in second with six votes and Byron Castillo took third place with three. Others considered included Franklin Guerra, Aníbal Liguizamón, Alan Aguirre, Luis Segovia, Darío Aimar, and Angelo Preciado.
Best flyer: Once again a Barcelona player took first place. Damián Díaz was the winner of the category, with nine votes. Second place went to Uruguayan Sebastián Rodriguez de Emelec, with five points, and third for Víctor Figueroa de Aucas, with four. Others considered were Lucas Villarroel, Steven Tapiero and Nixon Molina.
Best Forward: The undisputed winner was Cristian Martínez, from Liga de Quito. His 24 goals in LigaPro earned him 20 votes from the coaches. Gabriel Torres of Independiente del Valle had four points, Jonatan Álvez two, while Facundo Barceló and Jánner Corozo were each left with one.
Revelation Player: The prize went to Moisés Caicedo, from Independiente del Valle. The jiven player who made his debut with the Ecuadorian team won the election with 19 votes. Jordy Alcívar received four votes, Angelo Preciado and Aaron Carabalí two and one for José Carabalí.
Dear Legionnaire: Ángel Mena, who was crowned champion with the Mexican Lion, was voted the best Ecuadorian player abroad by 23 votes. Pervis Estupiñán and Felipe Caicedo gained two points and Washington Corozo one.
