Tommy Hilfiger dumps $ 45 million mansion in Greenwich

Most everyone seems to be moving to Florida – including Tommy Hilfiger, who ditched his $ 45 million Greenwich home for warmer pastures.

The American clothing mogul, 69, and his wife, former model Dee Ocleppo, 54, have finally completed the sale – teased exclusively by The Post in November – of their 13,344-square-foot mansion. The 22 acre estate at 30 John St., which they have owned since 2010, has six bedrooms, seven bathrooms and three ladies’ restrooms.

“The house does not feel very big because it is cozy and warm. They used almost every room. It welcomes you, ”Agent Janet Milligan of Sotheby’s International Realty Greenwich Brokerage told The Post.

The house has hand-painted fabric walls, carvings, wide planks and limestone floors, textile wall coverings, a wine cellar and a tasting room. An 18th-century French fireplace is one of six total fireplaces, and the master bedroom has two bathrooms, two dressing rooms, and an office, according to Realtor.com.

The entrance has a carved wooden staircase. The formal dining room has wood paneling and the large kitchen has exposed beams and a breakfast area – plus the house has a home theater system.

“[Ocleppo] has Turkish origin, so the Turkish-inspired interior is really special. She has turned the theater into a very nice, cozy room where you just want to watch movies all day long. It has a candy machine, popcorn, couches and chairs of different levels, ”said Milligan.

“The big, graceful, stately black gates open, and there’s the house and it’s like – wow … there’s really the wow factor,” said Officer Janet Milligan.

Outside, the house has fountains, koi pond, swimming pool, all-weather tennis court, rose garden, boxwood knot garden, topiary garden and a lawn overlooking the Long Island Sound. The house has a four-car garage plus a two-bedroom guest house and a private two-car garage, according to Realtor.com. They even had a greenhouse, where there were once orchids, and a chicken coop with three roosters and at least a dozen chickens, Milligan told The Post.

‘When you get closer, you go up a hill and you can’t see the house. When you pull into the driveway, it’s there like a pearl, ”Milligan said. “It’s the highest point in Greenwich, and on a clear day you can see New York City.”

“It’s like a storybook,” said Milligan.

This is the eighth house the couple has renovated and sold in the past 35 years. They bought the house in 2010 for $ 31.37 million and reportedly spent millions renovating the house, including replacing the terracotta tiles of the roof with custom exact replicas of the originals. They hired Andre Tchelistcheff Architects, as well as the interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, as well as Cindy Rinfret from Rinfret, Ltd. for the renovations, said Town & Country.

“Originally there was an indoor pool, and they have turned it into the most spectacular family room. You would never know it wasn’t there, it was so well done, ”said Milligan, adding that the new family room has French doors, a wet bar, a sitting area, a TV and a pool table.

Their Greenwich home was built in 1939 and designed by Greville Rickard for real estate investor Charles Vincent Paterno. The house was later owned by art collector Dr. Joseph Hirshhorn, whose collection is now at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, DC, according to Realtor.com.

Douglas Elliman’s Sally Slater represented the anonymous buyers who purchased the estate through an LLC.

“You think you’re miles from everything, but it’s actually so conveniently located and in such a beautiful setting,” said Milligan.

‘They are not flashy people. They just want to start their lives in Greenwich, instead of where they were, ”Slater told the Real Deal.

Hilfiger and Ocleppo will relocate to Palm Beach, Florida, due to favorable tax policies and other unspecified reasons; the couple are selling their home in Miami and are looking for a new home in Florida, they told the Wall Street Journal in September. Hilfiger also sold its Plaza Hotel penthouse for $ 33.25 million in 2019 and a Palm Beach mansion for $ 35 million in 2017.
