Tom Seipel, the Cleveland fan who saw his team play one last time with the help of Brown’s quarterback Baker Mayfield, has passed away at the age of 39.
Seipel fought kidney cancer. His friend posted the news on Seipel’s Instagram account.
During the last week of the regular season, Seipel left hospice to watch the Browns land their first playoff berth since 2002 with a win over the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers. Seipel watched the game in a suite at FirstEnergy Stadium hosted by Mayfield’s wife, Emily.
“You are extremely inspiring,” Mayfield said in a video sent to Seipel at the time.
The Mayfields also hit Seipel after the game.
On Saturday, Mayfield tweeted, “Rest In Peace Tom. Your pure heart will never be forgotten.”
