Tom Hanks says he and wife Rita Wilson will get the coronavirus vaccine ‘long after everyone who really needs it gets it’
Tom Hanks opened up with his wife Rita Wilson to get vaccinated against COVID-19 at the right time on Monday’s Today show.
“We’ll get it long after everyone who really needs it gets it,” the 64-year-old Oscar winner said more than nine months after he and Wilson announced they both tested positive in March.
The Forrest Gump star said that when he is vaccinated, he will do so in public to encourage others, a pledge that ex-presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton have also made.

He stressed that a crucial aspect of his battle with the virus was that he and Wilson had gone into lockdown to quell its spread.
“I think that was much more important, given that the second half of the COVID-19 formula was that we didn’t give it to anyone,” Hanks said. “Shut down, we would wear masks and we still do, not just to not catch it, but not to give it to anyone.”
The Saving Private star Ryan said he and Wilson endured “ a tough few days ” in their first battle with the virus, and have since donated blood to aid researchers after discovering antibodies in their systems.
Hanks revealed his and Wilson’s health status on March 11, the same day NBA star Rudy Goebert tested positive for the virus and closed the NBA for months.

At the time, Hanks and Wilson were being cared for at Gold Coast University Hospital in Australia, where he was filming a movie.
