“Tom and Jerry”: entertaining, nostalgic and full of lessons

Based on the characters created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, the duo “Tom and Jerry” returns to the big screen with an action-packed movie and big hearts.

Set in New York, Tom and Jerry begins by informing their fans about the friend-foe couple. It turns out that they are both now homeless on the streets of Manhattan. On the one hand, the little mouse “Jerry” is on a mission to find a new place to live. While the cunning cat “Tom” continues to do his thing to survive in the big city. But it’s not until “Jerry” discovers and ruins “Tom’s” evil plan that the rivalry we all know and love is rekindled.

The movie starts to get even more fun and active when the mischievous mouse decides to move to the most prestigious hotel in town. Place where the young “Kayla”, played by Chloë Grace Moretz (The Addams Family), just got a job after defrauding and manipulating the hotel manager. Just some of the qualities this character shares with our beloved protagonists, besides being the only person who can understand them. Now, in desperate need to get “Jerry” out of the hotel before the most important wedding of the century takes place, “Kayla” turns to “Tom” to get rid of him together. Unleash more chaos, violence and destruction, as only these two classic characters know how to perform.

Directed by Tim Story (Fantastic Four) and produced by Christopher DeFaria (The Lego Movie 2), the film pays tribute to cartoons by keeping them in 2D animation, and with the ability to communicate only through gestures and facial expressions . However, sharing the plot and their screen time with the rest of the cast didn’t help them reach their full potential. Of course, it doesn’t mean the film is entertaining, nostalgic and full of lessons, especially about unity. Something that both characters rarely share on screen. But let’s face it, we like them best when they make life miserable, that’s what makes them the most fun.

Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Rob Delaney, Colin Jost and Ken Jeong star in the story directed by Tim Story.

Tom and Jerry opens in theaters tomorrow and on the streaming platform HBO Max.

Nicky Jam es “Butch”

Puerto Rican reggaeton veteran Nicky Jam plays the stray cat named “Butch” in this production. “I remember growing up watching ‘Tom and Jerry’ cartoons, and never in a million years did I think I would be a part of this in a newly reinvented adventure set around this time,” the artist.

‘I’m the black cat, the alley cat, the bad guy. I really identify with ‘Butch’ because he looks rough on the outside, but he has a good heart on the inside. So that’s Nicky, it’s Nicky Jam ”, he compared. “It looks rough on the outside, but it is, I have a good heart and I know, I’m not that rough on the inside.”

The urban performer Ozuna also joins this production with a special appearance.

“It’s an incredible thing for me, a great opportunity. I grew up with ‘Tom and Jerry’ and have always loved watching them. His shows were always fun and made me feel good. Being part of the movie reminds me of that time. It’s great that everyone can enjoy their adventures ”, says the artist.
