Two thirds of the star director trio that made 2017 Call me by your name a romantic success story is said to be reunited for a movie about cannibalism – but not the two-thirds you’d expect. Which means, Deadline reports for which Timothée Chalamet and Luca Guadagnino may be working with actress Taylor Russell Bones and everything, a new film about a young woman who begins to explore her roots after realizing she has a deep urge to eat her romantic partners. It’s another prominent career milestone for Russell, who is currently starring on Netflix’s Lost in space, and won acclaim in 2019 for her starring role in Trey Edward Shults’ coming-of-age drama Waves. But while we want to put our full focus here on Russell’s continued ascent up the big movie star ladder – possibly working with the Suspiria director and the highly prolific Chalamet – there’s, um, another topic lurking here. One that, for better or for worse, makes talking about her two co-workers embarking on a movie about romantic cannibalism a little distracting tonight.

And look, we’ve tried very hard not to emphasize the aspects of “allegedly in eating people.” the scandal currently enveloping Chalamet and Guadagnino’s longtime collaborator Armie Hammer of lateespecially since all ‘I want to eat your ribs’ allegations tend to obstruct or cover up the allegations of sexual abuse and manipulative behavior also made against the actor, both in a string of Instagram DMs he allegedly sent, and also by former romantic partners. (Hammer denies everything, for what it’s worth.) But also: it is deep strange (albeit bizarrely coincidentally) that his two most prominent colleagues of recent years would launch a new film about someone who wants to eat the people she’s in love with right now.

Certainly, Hammer’s estranged wife, Elizabeth Chambers, seems to agree; as noticed by PaperChambers reportedly said on an Instagram post spoke recently about the project with a succinct, “No. Words.”

Anyway! Bones and everything is based on a 2016 novel by Camille DeAngelis; Dave Kajganich wrote the script. Chalamet still has it Dune on the horizon of course, and Guadagnino’s latest project was the HBO TV series We are who we are.
