Tigers win in 10 with Baddoo’s gold hit

DETROIT (Neth.) – Akil Baddoo had another major hit in the dream start to his Major League-career and the Detroit Tigers defeated the Minnesota Twins 4-3 in 10 innings on Tuesday-evening.

Baddoo hit an RBI-single in the bottom of the tenth inning. He made his debut on Sunday, hitting a homerun on his first pitch.

On Monday, he hit a grand slam in a game that lost Detroit 15-6 to the Twins. The rookie entered the game on Tuesday as a pinch runner, stayed on the field to play as an outfielder and finally defined with a right goal against Hansel Robles (0-1).

Baddoo, 22, was acquired by the Tigers from the Twins in December under the terms of Rule 5 of the draft on players banned from the 40-man roster.

Drafted by Minnesota in the second round of draft in 2016, Baddoo had never played above Class A until this year. For four seasons in the Minors, he hit .249.

Last year, the minor league season was canceled due to the pandemic.

Nelson Cruz and Byron Buxton homered for the Twins.

The victory went to Dominican Gregory Soto (1-0), who worked two scoreless innings.

For the Twins, Venezuelans were Luis Arráez 5-0, Willians Astudillo 4-2 with an RBI. The Dominicans Jorge Polanco 5-0, Cruz 5-3 with a run scored and an RBI, Miguel Sanó 4-0.

For the Tigers, Puerto Rican Willi Castro 5-1. Venezuelans Miguel Cabrera scored 3-0, Harold Castro without an official turn but with a goal, Wilson Ramos 4-0. The Dominicans Jeimer Candelario 4-2 with a goal scored and an RBI, Nomar Mazara 1-0.
