Three shot dead after gunman opens fire at Rockford, Illinois bowling alley | American news

A gunman opened fire at an Illinois bowling alley, killing three people and injuring three others in what authorities say was a random attack.

A “person of interest” was taken into custody after the Saturday night shooting at Don Carter Lanes in Rockford, about 80 miles northwest of Chicago, police said.

Rockford police chief Dan O’Shea said at a news conference that two of those shot were teenagers.

O’Shea did not immediately release additional information about the victims or the person who was taken into custody. He described the scene as contained, saying he did not think officers fired their weapons while arresting the person in question.

The Rockford Register Star reported that 2020 is the city’s deadliest year for murders, according to data dating back to 1965. This year, 35 people were murdered in the city, breaking the previous record of 31 in 1996.
