Those vaccinated with Pfizer will likely need a third dose

People who have received the COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer will likely need a third dose within 12 months, according to the company’s CEO, Albert Bourla.

In an interview with CNBC taped April 1 but published today, Thursday, the businessman said the population may need to be vaccinated against the coronavirus annually.

“It is extremely important to suppress the number of people susceptible to the virus,” Bourla explains during his interview.

It should be noted that since the clinical trials have started a little over a year, it is not yet known how long the effectiveness of this or the other vaccines manufactured by BioNTech and Johnson & Johnson will last.

Earlier this month, Pfizer said that six months after the second dose, the COVID-19 vaccine is 91% effective and 95% effective against more serious illnesses.

In February, both Pfizer and BioNTech reported that they are testing a third dose of their vaccine to better understand the immune response against other variants of the virus.
