This year, at least six Hondurans are awaiting conviction

Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

The new year will be decisive for Honduran politicians, former police officers and businessmen involved in the cocaine trade in the United States.

The US Justice Department will issue convictions against about six fellow countrymen found guilty of drug trafficking.

According to court programming, former nationalist congressman Juan Antonio Tony Hernández will be the first to be sentenced.

Reading his sentence is scheduled for January 27.

Tony Hernández faces a conviction between 40 years and life imprisonment, after being found guilty of drug trafficking, use of weapons of war, and lying to federal agents.

On the other hand, former Liberal MP Fredy Renán Nájera will finally hear his conviction on March 5 for drug trafficking and possession of weapons of war.

Nájera is involved in the transfer of more of 20 kilos of cocaine.

Nájera agreed to surrender to US authorities in March 2018.

The New York court is also preparing to issue a verdict against narcotics police Ludwig Criss Zelaya and Juan Manuel Ávila Meza.

Both will go to court on March 24 to participate in the final hearing prior to the verdict of their sentences.

The former police officer will also face trial and receive his sentence Mauricio Hernández Pineda. Businessman Geovanny Fuentes Ramírez, associated with the Cachiros cartel, will appear in court and receive his sentence in mid-2021.
