The next season of Apex Legends brings a ton of additions to the battle royale, and more than just a new legend and an overhauled Kings Canyon.
As usual, Respawn modifies the ground loot pool to accommodate the new accessories by disabling a hop-up and attachment, but the care package weapons remain the same.
Here’s what’s changing, what’s not, and why:
Care package weapons
TopThe care package’s weapon pool will not undergo any changes in Season Eight. “We want the Prowler to stay in the care package, really give it some time to settle there,” game designer Eric Canavese told Dot Esports. This means the three stock weapons are still the Prowler, Peacekeeper and Kraber. The Mastiff and R-99 will still spawn to the ground normally.
Plus, Respawn wants to “let the 30-30 in and see how that shifts the meta” before making any changes, Canavese said. “We go [change care package weapons] when we feel like it’s the right time to do it and when the meta is responding well to it. “
The final set of changes to the care package loot occurred in Season Seven, when the R-99 went to the floor loot and the Prowler took its place.
Floor booty
Despite the lack of changes to the care package, the floor’s plunder pole will undergo a few minor adjustments. The Anvil Receiver returns to the battle royale and takes the place of the Double Tap Trigger hop-up, only compatible with the G7 Scout and the EVA-8. Gold barrel stabilizers are also out of the picture for the season to make way for the new gold magazines. And of course there is a completely new weapon in the mix: the 30-30 Repeater.
TopThe newest weapon “will be somewhere between the Longbow and the G7 Scout” with “a little bit of Wingman in there for the record,” Canavese said. It has two firing modes: faster, unconfirmed shots and a charged projectile when aiming at sights. Being a leveraged weapon, firing the 30-30 delivers a cadence of single shots – and the changes to the floor’s loot mean that alternatives to the new gun must be created.
The return of the Anvil Receiver is meant to create fun and interesting gameplay around the new weapon, the 30-30 Repeater, according to Canavese. The hop-up increases the R-301’s damage and the Flatline’s single-fire mode at the expense of ammo consumption.
“We don’t want there to always be 30-30 fights,” said Canavese. “We want other weapons that can compete against it to have interesting combat moments and interesting options for people to run.”
Gold barrel stabilizers will also sit outside of season eight to give gold magazines a place in the spotlight. Gold loot drops are hard enough to come by, and simply adding a new attachment can overcrowd the pool.
Overall, TopSeason eight Mayhem won’t make many adjustments to the loot tomorrow. But the arrival of the 30-30, the addition of gold magazines, and the return of the anvil receiver will shake things up.
