While the rollout of Pfizer and Moderna coronavirus vaccines is improving by the day, it is still far from an efficient process. As it stands, only 4.8 million Americans have received a COVID-19 vaccine, a figure well below some of the more optimistic projections we initially heard from officials involved in Operation Warp Speed. Just a few weeks ago, officials attempted to vaccinate 20 million Americans by the end of January, a goal that now seems incredibly unlikely.
As a result, Dr. Anthony Fauci, who is a lead member of the White House’s Coronavirus Task Force, recently believes it may take a little longer for life in the US to return to normal. While Fauci previously suggested we could get over the virus as early as June, he recently said normal daily activities won’t return until October or November.

During a recent online Q&A session, Fauci explained that – at best – low-risk Americans with no underlying conditions could receive a vaccine in April. Then it just becomes a matter of vaccinating as many people as possible as soon as possible.
Fauci added:
If things go as we plan and hope they do, and we start to vaccinate the general public, which is people who are not in a priority group, if we can start that in April and then very aggressively vaccinate people from April, May, June, July and August, I hope that by the time we get to the fall of 2021, the end of September, October, November, we can approach a great deal of normalcy.
Fauci later added that life may not return to 100% normal right away, but it will be safe enough to eat in restaurants, go to the theater, and even attend live sporting events.
Looking ahead, Fauci is convinced that the US can significantly step up vaccinations. Fauci said just days ago that there is no reason why the US should not be able to get a vaccination rate of 1 million people a day.
“But a glimmer of hope is that they’ve gotten 1.5 million doses into people’s arms in the past 72 hours,” Fauci said over the weekend, “which is an average of about 500,000 a day, which is much better than in the beginning when it was much, much less than that so we’re not where we want to be, no doubt about that, but I think we can get there if we really speed up, get some momentum and see what happens when we enter the first weeks of January. “
