On October 3, 2016, American star Kim Kardashian fell victim to a spectacular robbery during Fashion Week in Paris. The loot was estimated at 9 million euros (almost 11 million dollars and about 39,000 million Colombian pesos).
One of the protagonists of the robbery, Yunice Abbas, has just published the book ‘J’ai séquestré Kim Kardashian’ (‘I kidnapped Kim Kardashian’) in which he tells his version of the robbery.
Abbas is now 67 years old, has two children and three grandchildren.

The author stated to the French media ‘Paris Match’ that he had never heard of the celebrity before the event. This made it easier for Aomar Aït Khedache, the leader of the attack, to hide the scope of the plan.
“He just told me that our victim was the wife of a famous rapper. I didn’t want to know anymore at that point, “he said.
He was detained for 22 months for this case and has been in temporary detention awaiting trial since October 2018.
An unconventional criminal gang
His group was known as ‘the grandparents band’ because the five members were between the ages of 60 and 72.
But behind the faces of their “loving grandparents” were men with long criminal histories who had planned the coup for weeks.
Abbas told Paris Match that “someone from the Kardashian family team” had given them information about where they were staying. Once with that clear information, members of the band made information to know the times they left and entered the place.
The day of the robbery
Everything was set up so that the robbery went perfectly.
The star’s bodyguard, one of her sisters, and a driver they had hired in Paris went to a nightclub. For her part, her mother went to a hotel. And she stayed in the apartment with her personal secretary. “What interested us was his diamond. That attracted us. He had pictures everywhere with him,” Abbas said in an interview with the agency ‘EFE’ about the engagement ring that Kardashian had given her partner, rapper Kanye West.

The gang entered the scene wearing fake police jackets. According to Abbas against ‘Paris Match’, they chose this wardrobe because of the police raids that are carried out in the area in search of drugs.
He said he had not seen the actress directly, but rather took it upon himself to keep the building’s concierge. His team took the man to the apartment to use him as a translator, because he spoke English.
For Abbas, the robbery was simple and quick as Kardashian did everything they asked. In addition, the loot was greater than expected as they found a lot of luxury jewelry.
‘There was no need to threaten. She cooperated. In general, it always is. There is no reason to resist, it would be foolish. ‘the man, of Algerian descent, added to ‘EFE’.
Finally they fled silently: Abbas went on a bicycle with a companion. The others left on foot.
“Less than ten minutes passed between arrival and departure,” he said in an interview with ‘EFE’.

The catch
At the heart of Abbas’s capture was his DNA. “I was wearing two pairs of gloves, but I touched the receptionist to operate it,” he told Paris Match.
His fingerprints were left on the rope he used to tie the man so they could find him on the morning of January 9, 2017, three months after the attack.
The police found money and jewelry, but the thief believes that another 7 million euros has not been traced.
He was charged with theft in an organized gang and kidnapping and his trial is set to take place in at least a year, so he will remain free while that happens, although he is clear about his chances of re-entering prison (it’s been about 21 years in prison for other past robberies).
Abbas received $ 70,000 from what was stolen (nearly $ 84,270 and over 300 million pesos) and said he would apologize if he ever coincided with Kim Kardashian. “If you don’t want to or can’t, you’re right. I’m sorry, but I can’t do anymore, I can’t go back”, he concluded in his conversation with ‘EFE’.
