They want to sell the hegemony of Liga MX for little money

Thanks to those leaders who just want to get rich in exchange for losing the hegemony that Mexican football has had in CONCACAF.

Lately, news has surfaced that there is interest from both US and Mexican executives to unite Liga MX and MLS.

This does not seem like a good idea to me, because the managers, both from one country and another, are only looking for economic benefits. Clever, the Americans want, in exchange for very little money, to reach the level of football they represent Mexico in the world.

In the United States they have been trying to reach that level for years. I know this because I have contributed to the cause since 1979, when I started playing San Diego Soccer at a time when big players were already retiring like Pelé, Beckenbauer, Cruyff, etc. But I came as a young man to a international wake-up call. It was a time when they had no economic control and eventually failed.

Since, United States It has improved, it has had good times like the one they managed to beat us at the 2002 World Cup when they thought they outdid us, but no. Now with this MLS, where I was present in my retreat, I noticed that it was carried slowly but safely.

Their idea is to determine that with the 2026 World Cup, which they will share with Mexico and Canada, we should support them as they have helped us organize a number of competitions. It is a “give me your hand in teaching and sharing quality and talent as I help them to receive a lot of money”.

These agreements are purely economic in nature, not sportive; if it did, Mexico would not have left competitions like the America Cup Libertadores and South American.

From an economic point of view, the managers have decided to withdraw Mexican teams from these competitions and that has hurt us sportingly. We were better then both as a team and individually when we played these CONMEBOL tournaments, because the level and quality is better in South America.

We wanted to connect with our referees on the continent, namely Brazil and Argentina. We managed to win two Copa América finals, five semi-finals plus three Libertadores finals, two finals and the championship of Pachuca in the South American.

That was the best podium in Mexican football and all eyes were on the teams and players who played those tournaments. Now they believe that in exchange for money, Europe’s eyes will be on Mexico and the United States, but the attention will continue in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia …

In Europe there are American players, but also Mexican players. If they really want to improve us at the sports level, it is not helpful to unite the leagues, NO. That way we only sell very cheaply that they suit us, they would have to pay us a lot more for that.

In exchange for little money, they want to stagnate Mexican football to boost their league, rival us, and above all, surpass us in the not-too-distant future.

Thanks to those leaders who just want to get rich in exchange for losing the hegemony that Mexican football has had in CONCACAF.
