They remember the martyrs of Hotel Matum 55 years after his murder

Several institutions today paid tribute to Colonel Juan María Lora Fernández and other martyrs of the Battle of Hotel Matum, 55 years after the achievement.

The activity was organized by the Permanent Commission of Patria Ephemerides, the Lora Fernández Foundation, the Ministry of Defense and the Provincial Government of Santiago.

Representatives of those institutions placed flower offerings on the statue of the martyr Torn down in action during the battle of December 19, 1965.

The words of the deed were responsible for Lieutenant Colonel Juan Manuel Lora León, president of the foundation and son of the national hero.

The Chairman of the Permanent Commission of Patria Ephemerides, Juan Pablo Uribe, for his part, presented a plaque of recognition to the President of Hotel Matum, Ulises Polanco, for preserving the historical memory and acknowledging the support for the activities of the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Luciano Díaz Morga.

Uribe indicated that it is necessary to strengthen the values ​​and ideals of democracy, solidarity, dignity, decorum, politeness and courage, as demonstrated by the Matum warriors 55 years ago.

In that fight, an attempt was made to assassinate the leader of the April Revolution, Francisco Caamaño. and other important figures, who traveled to Santiago to pay tribute to the founder of the constitutionalist movement, Rafael Tomas Fernández Domínguez, who was seven months after his heroic fall that day in the attempted attack on the National Palace.
