The researchers estimate that the newly discovered sauropod can grow to 15-20 meters in length.
Researchers from the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Smithsonian Institution in the United States identified a new dinosaur species that more than 90 million years, and especially in the present-day region of Dzharakuduk, in the central deserts of Uzbekistan.
According to the researchers in a study published Wednesday in PLOS ONE, the results of a phylogenetic analysis conducted in an anterior caudal vertebra, found in the Bissekty Formation, showed features that made it possible to identify that the remains belonged to a new one. species of sauropods, called ‘Dzharatitanis kingi’.
Likewise, the scientists found that the new species, the first of its kind found in Asia, shares characteristics with the rebachisaurids found in Wessex (United Kingdom), and therefore they suspect that it is a derivation of their relatives Europeans .
Hans-Dieter Sues, co-author of the study, explained that the ‘Dzharatitanis’, like other known sauropods, would have had a long and thin neck, a relatively small head compared to the body, and a very long tail. Despite not having any more remnants that allow them to precisely determine the size of the dinosaur, the scientist estimates it could have been between 15 and 20 meters long.

“We are still trying to understand how these animals were distributed during the Cretaceous Period, since Europe was basically a series of large and small islands, while we have that vast landmass that was Asia, connected east to North America.” In any case, he said, his work and that of his colleague, Alexander Averianov, are meant to contribute to the understanding of this process.
