CHICAGO- Puerto Rican Javier Báez was hit twice by Kyle Wright, who nevertheless limited Chicago to two runs and three hits in 4 1/3 innings. Wright hit four Chicago batters but held the lead in a last-minute game called up to pitch, and the Atlanta Braves escaped on Friday with a 5-2 win over the Cubs.

Baez also contributed a double, the first hit of his career.

Will Smith got the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth.

Wright was called up from the Club’s alternate training site to replace Drew Smyly, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Friday morning due to a swollen left forearm.

Four relievers held the Cubs to zero, including Josh Tomlin (2-0), who took the win. Smith took over the ninth inning and got the bases loaded with two outs.

The closer eliminated Joc Pederson and claimed his third save in three tries.

Willson Contreras homered off Wright, but the Cubs suffered their second consecutive loss and fifth in their last six games.

For the Braves, Venezuelans were Ronald Acuña Jr. 4-1 with a run scored and two produced, Ehire Adrianza 3-0 with an RBI, Ender Inciarte 2-1. Dominican Marcell Ozuna 5-3 with an RBI. Cuban Guillermo Heredia scored 2-0 with one. The Panamanian Johan Camargo 1-0.

For the Cubs, Venezuelan Contreras was 4-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Puerto Rican Baez 2-0 with a run scored.
