The candidate for mayor of Nueva Trinidad in Chalatenango, for the PCN party, Concepción Varela, who was found dead today, has been missing since Friday February 26, two days before the municipal and parliamentary elections.
Reynaldo Cardoza, deputy of the PCN in the department of Chalatenango confirms that even on Thursday they had called on the candidates to deliver the credentials, money for payment, food and vests that the guards would use on February 28, election day, he no longer responded. to the conversation.
“I sent for him on Saturday (February 26) and the family only said he was gone, but they didn’t even tell him where he was,” said Cardoza.

Varela had been a member of the party for a year, according to the deputy, and he was very motivated with the community.
The candidate no longer showed up on Friday, February 26, prior to the election, to collect login details and vests.
“Whenever we called him to a meeting, he was always on the lookout, going from house to house to deliver food,” said the deputy sheriff.
The candidate’s family, engaged in agricultural work, were calm about the disappearance and stated that it was customary for him to leave without saying where he was going.
“I went to find him with another man and all they told us was he was not home,” said the parliamentarian’s security officer, Enrique Zelaya.
Varela, already found in a state of decomposition today, was apparently hanged, but it has not been confirmed whether it was suicide or murder.
Representative Cardoza is calling for swift justice to the case, that the authorities get to the bottom of the matter and that it be ruled out as a “political crime”.

The decomposed body of Concepción Varela was found yesterday, Friday, March 5, between the villages of El Sitio and Manaquil.
Varela, described by locals as a humble and responsible young man, had been threatened with death, according to his loved ones.
Varela’s corpse was recognized by his relatives from the clothes and objects found at the site, as it was in an advanced state of decomposition. The authorities have started an investigation.
