They define the most vulnerable points in the country to illegal trade

The Dominican Republic’s military commander, Major General Julio Florián Pérez, said yesterday that the demarcations of Dajabón, Pedernales and Elías Piña are the “most critical” points of the Dominican-Haitian border. Because in these provinces the largest number of illegal foreigners enter the country.

“More than 1,600 soldiers were added, which amounts to more than 8,000 soldiers who will be on the border alone. The points of Dajabón, Pedernales and Elías Piña are the most critical points, as this is where most illegal immigrants enter the country and we have to take care of our border. The migrants are regularly returning to their countries on this date and we are in the operation to regularize them when they try to return, ”said Florián Pérez, adding that the institution works with illegal trade and merchandise.

The information was provided by the army commander during the launch of the “Operation to Strengthen Migration Controls”, which consists of carrying out a series of actions across the national territory to control the presence of illegal aliens. The plan was launched yesterday and will run for three months. “We will continue this operation for three months and more. By air, land and sea we will use all management structures with the aim of protecting our border in a very special way and that national sovereignty is not violated, so that in this way we use mass exodus of illegal immigrants, human trafficking, blind weapons and drugs and protect our country from any illegal act, ”said Enrique García, Director-General for Migration.

While Interior and Police Minister Jesús Vásquez Martínez reaffirmed his commitment to strengthen security at the Dominican-Haitian border, warning that the government will not allow immigrants to enter the country illegally.

“Laws will be imposed on our border, the environment, our natural resources will be respected. These measures are designed to reduce illicit trade with special attention and emphasis on the smuggling of firearms, alcoholic beverages, controlled substances and other illegal behavior that affects our legal certainty, ”said Vásquez Martínez. A total of 95 members of the Ministry of Defense and National Police will participate in these operations, which will “scour the entire country” in search of undocumented migrants.
