Honduran Cardinal Óscar Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga, 78, was infected with the coronavirus, Father Juan Ángel López, spokesman for the Catholic Church’s Bishops Conference, confirmed Thursday.
“It felt tired and took the decision of admit him to find out if it was the coronavirus. The cardinal is suffering from the coronavirus, ” the priest explains.
He added that everyone in Honduras knows that “the cardinal has diabetes and is 78 years old,” but he is a person “who doesn’t stop working and takes good care of himself.”
Father Juan Ángel López said he had just talked to Cardinal Rodríguez and told him he was feeling better, not to make a fuss, and to pray.
The Archbishop of Tegucigalpa, who is admitted to a private clinic, was not given a rapid test, a PCR smear was performed and the results have been known to this day.
The leaders of the Honduran Catholic Church said they did not know when the Honduran Cardinal.
