They are calling for a demonstration against the return to virtual classes

Following the announcement of the designated Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Carlos Mellado, parents outraged at the closure of schools on the island will demonstrate in front of La Fortaleza tomorrow, Saturday.

“The government has closed our schools again, leaving our children in last place,” reads the report, inviting people to carry their banners for the 10 am morning protest.

Mellado said last night, Thursday, that the agency has determined that the education system in Puerto Rico, both public and private, will return to virtual in the next two weeks.

This given the recovery of cases and hospital admissions due to coronavirus, COVID-19.

“This decision has been made in talks with the Governor, Pedro Pierluisi, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Elba Aponte. There will be no in-person classes as of next Monday, April 12,” Mellado said.

The Secretary added that while there are no outbreaks in schools, precautions should be taken in light of the incidence and positivity of the past seven days that have raised the risk level to a critical level for three consecutive days as per the protocol of the Ministry of Health.
