The Senate passed a resolution directing the Commission on Human Rights and Labor Affairs to investigate what measures and / or protocols have been implemented at the Puerto Rico Police Department, the Department of Justice and the Office of Court Administration to ensure that crimes are induced classified and treated according to the gender identity or sexual orientation of crime victims in accordance with such circumstances, as well as any other initiative that ensures the dignified treatment of victims and promotes greater institutional awareness.

This is Senate Resolution 78, drafted by the Senators, María de Lourdes Santiago, Rafael Bernabe, Ana Irma Rivera Lassen, Ada García Montes and Rubén Soto Rivera.

“This measure translates into hate crimes. It will be possible to know what can be done and what cannot be done. The entire judicial component would benefit from this research to work on the hate crime issue, ”said Rivera Lassén.
