High short stocks have made headlines in recent weeks after a spate of retail investment pushed the stock price of GameStop and others up.

GameStop shares shot to $ 325 a share in late January as retailers inspired by the Reddit thread piled up WallStreetBets, causing a short squeeze on hedge funds with significant short positions against the stock. The stock price has since declined and is now trading just over $ 40.

Short selling is a trading strategy that allows investors to take advantage of a stock’s depreciation by borrowing a stock and selling it at its current market value with a view to buying it back at a lower price in the future.

GameStop used to be the most short stock in the market, with 138% of float stocks in short positions, but the rising share price forced some short sellers to close their positions, in some cases with significant losses.

According to FactSet data, the physical video game remains the seventh most shorted stock in the United States, with a short interest rate of 39.29% of the company’s float.

Here’s a list of the other most-shorted stocks traded on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Composite.
