The Master Chief Collection’s last season, Season 6: Raven, launched last week on April 7 for Xbox and PC. I’ve been busy with Outridersso I haven’t been able to watch it so far. This update adds a lot, but the most exciting new piece of content is a new map for it Halo 3

The new card is Waterfall and it was originally intended to be in Hello online, a free to play Halo title published only in Russia. Hello online was discontinued after beta testing in 2016, before this map and other bits of content could be added. This isn’t the first time that content from that dead game has made its way into MCC. Last season, some armor from Hello online was added to Halo 3But this is the first time MCC devs 343 Industries has cleaned up and ported a completely new map. And it is very weird!

Mind you, the map itself isn’t bizarre, but it feels like playing on a new one Halo 3 map in 2021 is certain. All these years after it stopped getting new DLC, that is, about 13 years ago-, here’s a new map. The map itself isn’t too exotic, so far Halo cards go. It is located in a UNSC facility built into the side of a large glacier. And yes, there is a waterfall in Waterfall. You can even get a man cannon jump through it. I suppose it is very refreshing for the Spartans fighting there. Probably also cold.

Waterfall isn’t currently part of any matchmaking playlists, so I just explored the new location on my own. But I could see the potential! I particularly like the one-way drops spread over a few locations; feels like a cool way to give players a different option during hectic battles. Oh, and I found a naturally progressing silent SMG from ODST in Waterfall. I know ODST and Halo 3 share the same bike and so it’s not surprising that he’s here, but he is extreme weird.

As far as I can tell, this map is probably prime time ready and I can’t wait to kick my butt when / or it makes the leap to public matchmaking. I hope other Hello online Cards fly to MCC also in future seasons. It can be a great way to freshen up MCC‘s multiplayer experience without the Halo sandbox too much.

It’s 2021 and I just played a new official Halo 3 Map. What a strange world this is.
