The woman with the longest nails in the world cuts them after almost 30 years

(CNN) – The Texan who became the woman with the longest nails in the world can finally open a door without fear, having just cut them off.

Houston’s Ayanna Williams broke the Guinness World Record for the world’s longest fingernails in 2017, when they reached almost 5.8 meters. It took her more than two bottles of nail polish and 20 hours to get her manicure.

Before being cut over the weekend, the final size of her nails was 7.5 meters. That manicure required three to four bottles of nail polish over the course of a few days.

Williams did the homework at a dermatology office in Fort Worth, Texas, where a rotary power tool had been used for her first nail trim since the early 1990s.

“With or without my nails, I’ll still be the queen,” Williams said, according to Guinness. “My nails don’t make me, I do my nails!”.

Williams said she only plans to grow her nails about 6 inches, according to Ripley’s Believe It or Not !, which will display her trimmed nails at the Orlando, Florida museum.

Until now, Williams was unable to perform some activities such as washing dishes and putting sheets on the bed. She said her new goal is to encourage the next nail enthusiast to make history to pursue a Guinness record title.

The record ever for the longest nails on a pair of female hands still belongs to Lee Redmond, who started growing them in 1979. They reached a length of 8.5 meters, but Redmond lost them in a car accident in 2009, according to Guinness. .
