The woman was murdered by her ex-partner eight days after they broke up

The couple had been in trouble for several months and had even sought help from a church group, but it all ended in tragedy.

For 8 days, Xiomara had decided to divorce her life partner for the second time and went to her parents’ house, about 600 meters from where she shared a house with Carlos Humberto Martínez, the father of her second daughter.

On Wednesday afternoon, April 14, Xiomara was alone with her two children, 11 and 2 1/2 years old, when her ex-partner arrived.

Carlos sent the children to shop at the store, through the narrow dusty street that runs along the railway line in the municipality of Los Santos, in Cojutepeque, Cuscatlán.

It was then that Carlos took advantage of the kids’ absence to kill Xiomara with a revolver and then shoot himself. The bodies were left side by side in the earth-floored cottage.

According to authorities, the scene indicates that the 26-year-old was struggling with her attacker.

Xiomara and Carlos were together for four years and had a 2.5-year-old daughter in common.

According to Xiomara’s family, the couple had been in trouble for several months and had even sought help from a group in a church, but they eventually broke up.

“They tried to pick it up again because they had a daughter in common. For her, they got a little closer to the things of God, but it didn’t work out,” says one of the relatives.

Although the relatives say they have no evidence that she has suffered physical violence, acquaintances had told them that she may have been beaten by her partner.

One of the neighbors noted that the young woman was the victim of violence, but the women do not dare to sue because “the judiciary is not sure who is protecting it and who is not, they are holding them for a while and that will be expensive later” , she claimed.

Xiomara’s sister describes her as a very kind person and a good mother. The young woman had been working in the household for eight years.

Neighbors describe Carlos as a quiet young man who did not get into trouble. “He came to the church group on Saturday, I don’t understand what happened to him,” said one of the neighbors.

On Thursday afternoon, both families mourned their loved ones separately. The remains of Xiomara were veiled in the center of Cojutepeque, while Carlos was veiled in the Hermitage of the La Esperanza community. The two will be buried in separate graves in Cojutepeque Municipal Cemetery.
